Do I have to audition?

    No. Shirah is open to all.


When does Shirah meet?

    Shirah generally rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, but may have rehearsals on Thursday evenings or Sundays in preparation for concerts. The rehearsal and concert schedule for 2015-2016 is available on the Calendar page.


May I join at any time?

    New members may join in September/October or January.


Is there a membership fee?

    There is a modest fee for each semester payable to the Thurnauer School of Music. Shirah members are also expected to sell tickets to one concert each semester.


Where are rehearsals held?

    Rehearsals are generally in Room 207-208 at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly, NJ.


Do I have to be a member of the Kaplen JCC?

    No. However, the tuition is modestly discounted for JCC members.


Do I have to be able to read music?

    No, although it helps.


Do I have to know Hebrew, Yiddish, Ladino or other languages?

    No, but it helps. Shirah performs works in Hebrew, English, Yiddish and Ladino (with the occasional peasant Russian thrown in!)
